In
the beginning, it was the dictatorship! I have learned how to express
my revolt through the political participation and to relieve my sadness
through the artistic manifestation. My works clearly approached the
(d)effects of the dictatorship. Those were years that marked, until
today, my professional activity. Many critics and admirers of my work
still hope to see in my pictures the same themes of that time.
The times changed. The democracy arrived for us, Brazilian, although
late and incomplete, and our future is in our hands. Approving or
not, the rulers which we chose are there because the majority voted
on them and, that must be respected. After all, we struggled for it!
One day we will learn with our mistakes and we will choose better
our representatives. I think that the seed was planted in fertile
soil and, little by little, the tree is growing.
In that way, my longings and concerns transcended for a new dimension
related with the human condition in the planet and, even after the
series "Brave New World", "The Seattle Project" and "Brave New Middle Age", I feel that the philosophical subject is not finished.
Actually I continue being bothered by the directions that the humanity
has been taking when doing thoughtless and inconsequent use of a powerful
technology.
It saddens me the fact that the planet produces daily enough for all
human beings to have "our daily bread" and, despite of that, not all
of them receive it. I notice that we continued to play as the owner
of the nature. We didn't act as part of the nature, but as owners
of it. I feel that the revenge approaches!
In the series "Brave New Millennium" I introduce the human being,
in situations of indifference, arrogance and prepotency behind the
subjects that refer to the survival of the species in the planet.
In that sense, the series approaches a technological idolatry that
has been leaving human being dazzled, but impotent, behind the disastrous
results provoked by his "Caprices" or "Caprichos" as would say Goya!
