Be and Not To Have, To Have and Not To Be, That Is Ethiopia! This sentence,
inspired in Shakespeare, expresses the whole drama of a people that
does not have the essential for the survival while others waste, without
the smallest concern with their fellow just because they are thousands
of kilometers away. To Be And Not To Have: he human essence (represented by the child) should worth more than the territorial conventions that divide the mankind. That is what I try to transmit in this painting, where the star represents the transcendental and the Earth the material, and the connection is the hypocritical conceptualism of the flagged backyards. To Have And Not To Be: the religious, political and economical powers of the world, represented by the painted flags, have the major portion of responsibility for the inequality of the human condition, since they have enough influence and power to change that situation. That Is Ethiopia!: the Ethiopian child represents, in this case, all the explored people that sustain, with their blood and sacrifice, the developed and rich countries.
